Castle Rock State Park

Working off holiday season indulgences by tromping the sunny knolls of Castle Rock State Park. Great fall and winter colors and a quick fix for a dose of sunshine, too, on these short days in the lee of Ben Lomond Mountain.

The easiest way to get to Castle Rock’s 34 miles of hiking trails from the San Lorenzo Valley is to take Highway 9 north to Highway 35 (Skyline Blvd). The main Robert C. Kirkwood entrance is about 2 1/2 miles southeast of the junction with Highway 9 and is open Monday through Sunday 8 am to 5 pm. Dogs are not allowed.
