Mountain Stargazer: Your March Horoscope
By Catie Cadge
Welcome to the Santa Cruz Cosmic Weather Report – Evolutionary Astrology of the moment, your moment in time, our collective moment of change! March is an exciting month for stargazers, because we have International Astrology Day, March 20th, the vernal equinox. This year, spring equinox will be at 2:37 am PST, when the Sun enters Aries, the first sign of the zodiac. Folks around the world celebrate the vast and rich history of astrology, the art of turning to the night sky for celestial guidance and self-reflection. As above, so below! We recognize the symbolic language the planets embody as they mirror the dance we choose to do here on Earth.
March begins in Pisces season as the Sun moves through the water sign. The slow-moving planet Neptune has been in Pisces since 2012 and will remain there until March, 2025. It takes 165 years for Neptune to orbit the Sun, so its passage through each zodiacal sign is a long and noticeable event. Meanwhile, as other faster moving planets and the Sun and Moon, also enter Pisces, they trigger the impact of Neptune, currently very strong in the sign the planet rules. Sun conjuncts Neptune at 20˚38’ March 10th. Venus will also meet up with Neptune the evening of the New Moon in Pisces, at 23˚04’, March 13th.
In its highest manifestation, Neptune in Pisces offers us union with the Divine oneness we encounter through meditation and consciousness. It also brings great moments of creativity and visionary imagination. Filmmaking, the act of creating a counter-reality through visual art, is ruled by Neptune. Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac, is about being the mystic and vision seeker, about letting go of boundaries, about transcendence of self. The low road of Neptune in Pisces is delusion, confusion, escapism, and mass deception. When does fantasy and our imagination get us into trouble? When do we need to be cautious in our routine methods of escape? Fleeing reality has its price. Perhaps the best question to ask is how can we use this creative juice, this visionary inspiration, without too much denial or too much escape.
The New Moon March 13th will also form a sextile to Pluto, planet of rebirth, in Capricorn, allowing us to face our shadows and push towards change and transformation. This is an excellent time to re-imagine who we are and how we can reinvent our lives as we journey ahead into a new world, an eventual post-pandemic future!
Other celestial events include Mars’ entrance into Gemini on Wednesday, March 3rd. The day after, Mercury, now direct, conjuncts Jupiter at 17˚33’ Aquarius; a good day for discussing plans and sharing ideas, friendly rapport overall. This energy will lighten some of the stubborn and stuck-feeling vibe of recent interactions under Mars in Taurus and will help open avenues for communication. By mid-month, Mercury enters Pisces. Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! Under a Pisces Mercury, we have a perfect time for finding a four-leaf clover, losing oneself in the music and dance of an Irish céili, or opening our hearts to the mystical depths of a Celtic holy well.
Later in the month, Mars forms a trine to Saturn in Aquarius at 10˚33’ on March 21st, the day after spring equinox. Venus also enters Aries. The vernal equinox features a Gemini Moon making a quick trine to Jupiter in Aquarius and square to Neptune in Pisces that morning, lending the day to cheerful and hopeful conversation and a celebratory mood for equinox joy and merriment! At the end of the month, Mercury conjuncts Neptune, again underscoring Piscean themes, on the evening of March 29th.
The month ends with a powerful Full Moon at 8˚18’ Libra March 28th. The Moon opposes Sun and Venus, both conjunct Chiron, the wounded healer, at 8˚49’Aries, all while the Moon forms a Grand air trine with Saturn in Aquarius and Mars in Gemini. Look to see where this Full Moon falls in your birthchart. Somewhere in your life you may be seeking to address a wound in how you assert yourself and your own needs versus your desires for balance, harmony, and relationship with others.
Welcome to spring everyone!
