Red Flag Warning Issued for the Santa Cruz Mountains

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Fire Weather Zone 512 Santa Cruz Mountains by the National Weather Service. Critical fire weather conditions are expected as we head into Tuesday morning, July 2 and until 11:00 pm Tuesday night. A combination of high temperatures (up to 99 Tuesday), Northwest wind around 15 mph, and low relative humidity (as low as 22 percent) can contribute to extreme fire behavior. There is an increased chance for fire starts in dry, open grasses.

Fireworks are prohibited in most of Santa Cruz County, including all unincorporated areas and on all beaches. Increased fines of up to $1,000 are in effect during the 4th of July holiday. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office will be increasing patrols and enforcement. Increased Fines in Effect for 4th of July.
