Take Control of Local Fire District
Felton homeowners are now facing a Yes or No vote for the Felton Fire benefit assessment.
A YES vote will ensure professional and quick response time for those in the Felton district, replace outdated equipment, and hire staff while maintaining a volunteer force. LAFCO and the National Fire Protection Association agree that for small rural fire districts, the future is a hybrid combination of volunteers and paid staff. This was the model recommended in the JULY 2025 LAFCO report.
A NO vote leaves our community in an uncertain and vulnerable position and will, according to LAFCO, leave Felton Fire facing a takeover, whether it’s with Zayante, or CSA 48, or someone else, it’s a multi-year process. They have real concerns about whether Felton fire can be sustainable for the next couple of years to even look at other options.
One thing is certain; Felton homeowners will be paying an assessment in the future for fire protection whether this passes or not. With a YES vote, the amount is known. With a NO vote and takeover, the amount is unknown and likely higher as we’ve seen in Pajaro Valley’s dissolution or longer response times as we’ve seen in Branciforte’s shuttered fire station. If this assessment fails, homeowners will be faced with uncertainty for the foreseeable future.
A NO vote will give control to outside agencies. We have a chance to create a more resilient Felton Fire District.
Take control of your local fire district NOW by voting YES!
