September Horoscope: Flashes of Revelation

Autumn equinox is upon us, Santa Cruz stargazers. Summer’s gone, my, oh my. But wait! We have three weeks left in Virgo season before Sun enters Libra – let’s make the most of our last days of summer! I think of the lyrics of Box of Rain by Robert Hunter, “Look out of any window, any morning, any evening, any day! Maybe the Sun is shining, birds are winging, no rain is falling from a heavy sky.” The cosmic weather says work hard through changes at play now but hold onto hope. September 1 starts with a challenging square between Mars in Cancer, 13°39’, and Saturn retrograde in Aries. We strive toward balancing our needs to defend family, be proactive as a healer, while also claiming our own right to take up space.
The New Moon is September 10th, 8:26 pm Pacific time, at 18°25’ Virgo. Sun and Moon sextile (60°) Mars in Cancer. How can I use my voice and critical insights to improve and help restore family bonds or self-healing for myself? Where do I need to hone my skills to be the master craftsperson? Are there ways I can better nurture those I love or defend them? Venus enters Scorpio and Mercury enters Libra the same day as the New Moon. How do we best negotiate with others and balance varying viewpoints while putting our struggles and deep, honest feelings on the table?
Also on September 10th, 11:27 am, Uranus stops in the sky to turn retrograde at 05°41’ Gemini. Uranus forms supportive aspects (angles) to Neptune retrograde in Aries and Pluto retrograde in Aquarius. Look to see where early degrees of Gemini, Aries and Aquarius fall in your own natal chart. Here you may encounter strong desires to break free and explore new ways to embrace life’s journey. Some of this embracing involves letting go of an old “you” and claiming a more authentic path forward. Uranus can bring sudden flashes of revelation. Listen to your inner voices. Free your mind and heart. On September 12th and 13th, Mercury in early Libra triggers this outer planet dance of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Let your creative juices flow or seek out a sympathetic ear to help you work through changes or new directions you have been pondering.
September 15th, Venus in Scorpio squares Pluto retrograde in Aquarius, 03°16’. If you have been facing any relationship struggles, they could surface again now. Pluto wants us to clear the slate of any wounds we may have to being fully our own person, our quirky individuated self. Best use of Venus in Scorpio is diving deep with our partner and exposing any pains or wounds we hold inside. “What do you want me to do, to do for you, to see you through?” The low road is petty power plays rather than putting truth on the table. Look to see where Pluto is moving in your own natal chart to better understand where transformation may occur.
Equinox is September 22nd when Sun enters Libra, 5:05 pm. Welcome to fall! The last week of September, Sun forms supportive aspects to Uranus and Pluto and an opposition to Neptune in Aries, so the stage is set for us to find peace, calm down and work through our relationships in creative and hopefully productive ways. The Navajo have an expression, “to walk in beauty.” We are all here to restore balance and find that beauty in the cosmic dance we do.
September ends with a Full Moon, 03°37’ Aries, on the 26th, 9:48 am. Moon conjuncts Neptune retrograde in Aries, sextiles Uranus retrograde in Gemini and sextiles Pluto retrograde in Aquarius. The next day Mars enters Leo, opposing Pluto. This Full Moon time also triggers the ongoing sextile between Neptune and Pluto (which is exact September 15th at 03°16’). Collectively, we face a moment of realization that true “evolution” happens when we let go of ego and a need to be seen and instead recognize a higher spiritual path and real freedom come from a flexible mind and open heart and a willingness to change. As the song goes, “Maybe you’ll find direction, around some corner, where it’s been waiting to meet you.”
