Newell Creek Pipeline Project Update
Now through August 6, construction crews will work extended hours, from 8:30am to 4pm, on Graham Hill Road as part of the Santa Cruz Water Department’s Newell Creek Pipeline Replacement Project. The extended schedule coincides with the San Lorenzo Valley School District’s summer break.
Pipeline installation is moving steadily, with crews now averaging 100 feet of pipe installed per workday. While installation occurs two days per week, the remaining days are dedicated to critical support tasks such as trenching, asphalt grinding, backfilling and paving. This means visible progress may vary day to day.
The project aims to relocate the Newell Creek Pipeline out of Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park to beneath Graham Hill Road, improving the long-term reliability of this essential water supply line. Crews recently crossed the Ponderosa Lodge driveway. From there, work will continue south along Graham Hill Road for approximately 3 miles. The full project area stretches from the intersection of East Zayante Road in Felton to Henry Cowell Drive and is expected to take about two years to complete.
