SLV Water District Seeks Public Input for Local Hazard Mitigation Plan

The San Lorenzo Valley Water District released its draft 2025 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) for public review. The draft plan will be presented at the district’s February 6 SLVWD Board of Directors meeting.

Funded by a California Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program grant, the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) seeks to:

  • Identify natural and technological/human-caused hazards that impact the District
  • Assess the vulnerability and risk posed by those hazards to District-wide human and structural assets
  • Develop strategies to mitigate those identified hazards
  • Present future maintenance procedures for the plan
  • Document the planning process

The planning process for the 2025 LHMP began in May 2024 with input from District staff and selected stakeholders. Representatives from the County of Santa Cruz, CAL FIRE, Scotts Valley Water District, the City of Santa Cruz, and the unincorporated areas of Boulder Creek and Zayante participated in planning meetings. See chart below:

District staff contributed to the plan, including former Interim General Manager Brian Frus. District staff will present the plan at the Feb. 6 Board meeting.

SLVWD will implement mitigation actions as feasible, build these actions into budgets, and utilize the plan to apply for federal grant assistance. The plan will be monitored, updated and evaluated periodically.

Public input on the hazards, risk assessment, mitigations and other components of the LHMP is encouraged. Review the plan and submit feedback by emailing Chris Klier, cklier@slvwd.com.

The February 6 agenda with in-person and zoom attendance options will post here: https://www.slvwd.com/node/89/agenda/2025.
