Conditions

Temperatures this week will run well above normal across the Bay Area and Central Coast woth low-to-mid 90s inland and 80s along the coast. Parts of the interior Central Coast could hit the upper 90s by mid-to-late week. Overnight lows in the upper 50s to low 60s will bring some relief at lower elevations, though higher elevations will see little nighttime cooling. Coastal residents will generally fare better overnight than those inland. Heat risk increases with each successive day.

Who’s at Risk

This level of heat affects most people who are sensitive to temperature extremes, particularly those without reliable cooling or adequate hydration. Some strain on health systems and heat-sensitive industries is possible.

What to Do

  • Stay hydrated. Drink water consistently, don’t wait until you’re thirsty. Check on neighbors and others who may need water brought to them.
  • Dress for the heat. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing when outdoors.
  • Time your activity. Limit strenuous exertion to early morning or evening.
  • Know the warning signs. Act quickly if you or someone else shows symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
  • Never leave children or pets in a parked car. Vehicle interiors can reach lethal temperatures within minutes.
