Highway 9 One-Way Traffic Control Continues the Week of August 3

Drivers on Highway 9 should plan for one-way reversing traffic control at several locations Monday through Friday during the week of August 3, 2026 both daytime and overnight. Here’s what’s happening, where, and how long it will last.

Bridge Replacements North of Boulder Creek

Crews are fully replacing two aging bridges north of Boulder Creek as part of the Highway 9 San Lorenzo River and Kings Creek Bridge Replacement Project: the Kings Creek Bridge (Post Mile 15.41–15.55) and the San Lorenzo River Bridge (Post Mile 13.58–13.69).

Temporary traffic signals at both bridges are providing round-the-clock one-way traffic control. In this first phase, crews have closed the southbound lane at each bridge so they can rebuild the southbound portion.

Pedestrian Safety Improvements in Felton

Since San Lorenzo Valley High School opened in 1954, students walking to campus have had to make their way along Highway 9’s narrow shoulders. The Felton Pedestrian Safety Improvements Project will change that, adding a sidewalk and bikeable shoulder on the southbound side of Highway 9 between the schools complex and downtown Felton.

For the current phase, a temporary concrete barrier has closed one southbound lane approaching Graham Hill/Felton Empire Road. The barrier protects crews working behind it and is expected to stay in place through February 2027. With school starting in early August, commuters should build extra time into their trips through this stretch.

Work is happening day and night behind the k-rail barrier, with one-way reversing traffic control north of Graham Hill Road (PM 6.4–7.2). This week, crews will remove trees, old electrical systems, and irrigation controllers, and will install new conduit along with potholing and drainage work.

When finished, the project will deliver lasting safety improvements for pedestrians and cyclists.

Drainage and Erosion Control Between Brookdale and Highway 236

The Highway 9 Upper Drainage and Erosion Control Improvements Project is upgrading key drainage systems along the highway, including culvert replacement, paving, and improved erosion control between Brookdale and the junction with upper Highway 236.

A temporary signal is providing 24/7 single-lane reversing traffic control from 0.21 miles north of Clear Creek Road/Pacific Street to 0.32 miles south of Irwin Way (PM 11.66). The signal is expected to operate through the end of September.

Additional Lane Closures This Week

Monday, August 3 through Friday, August 7, from 9 am to 4 pm:

• About 0.4 miles of the northbound lane will be closed at Ramona Drive (PM 17.51–17.95)
• About 1.5 miles of the northbound lane will be closed at Tin Can Ranch Road (PM 23.75–25.5)

Utility work and tree trimming will also require traffic control August 3–7 from 8:30 am to 4 pm at PM 8.55–9.9 and PM 15.47–15.97.

Message and directional signs will alert travelers ahead of each work zone. Please allow extra time when driving through the area.
