New Sheriff’s Service Center to Open in Davenport

The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors has approved a new Sheriff’s Service Center in Davenport to enhance public safety and serve the growing needs of the North Coast community. The decision comes in response to increased visitorship following the opening of the Cotoni-Coast Dairies National Monument and upcoming projects like the North Coast Rail Trail.

To be located at 450 Highway 1, the substation will act as a central hub for residents, visitors, and law enforcement. Staffed by a Community Policing Deputy and trained volunteers, the center will handle public safety inquiries, crime reporting, and general community engagement. Santa Cruz County Parks will also share the space, fostering collaboration and resource management.

“This new service center represents an investment in both public safety and quality of life for the North Coast,” said Supervisor Justin Cummings, who championed the project. “By colocating with County Parks, we are creating long-term efficiencies while ensuring residents and visitors alike have access to the services they need.”

Sheriff Chris Clark added, “This new substation formalizes our commitment to serving the North Coast community. By making sure residents and visitors alike have a direct connection to the Sheriff’s Office, we can respond quickly, engage directly, and ensure all have a great experience along the North Coast.”The center will support the area’s growing amenities, including infrastructure improvements, to meet the rising demand on North Coast resources.
