Free Spirits

By Julie Horner and Mary Andersen

There’s something about this summer so far that seems more free spirited; like we have the option to stretch our imaginations (and our legs) a bit more than we have in recent years. Temps have been delightfully warm, perfect for lingering in the garden with the morning cup of joe or lounging with friends and a cold one in the afternoon. Music festivals and street fairs beckon, and clear nights are filled with starsand the sweet smells of honeysuckle and vines of jasmine gone berserk. The trails at San Vicente Redwoodsand Big Basin have never been so inviting as the landscape continues to bloom and grow four years into theCZU Fire recovery. Trails are open, and the San Lorenzo
River is running cool and clear. In the July issue of the San Lorenzo Valley Post we celebrate coho salmon and conservation. Read about the safe return of Lukas McClish, the Boulder Creek man who became stranded in the Santa Cruz Mountains for 10 days. New businesses have opened, and there’s a new weekly siren in town at the Boulder Creek Fire Department. Enjoy our Community and Entertainment Calendars brimming with amazing local things to do in the Santa Cruz Mountains to help you submerge into summer.
