Century 21 Pumpkin Carving & Decorating Contest: A Boulder Creek Halloween Tradition
Annual event brings creativity, community spirit, and hundreds of votes to Boulder Creek.
What began as a simple way to celebrate Halloween has grown into a beloved community tradition in Boulder Creek, thanks to the team at Century 21 Masters.
For years, the real estate office enjoyed taking photos of community members showing off their Halloween costumes. Eventually, as more people began taking their own pictures with cell phones, the team decided it was time to start a new tradition.
In 2018, Century 21 Masters launched its annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest, and it has been an amazing success ever since!
This Year’s Contest: Key Dates
- Pick up your FREE pumpkin: Thursday, October 29 and Friday, October 30, anytime between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
- Drop off your carved or decorated pumpkin: No later than 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 31 (Halloween)
- Vote for your favorites: Halloween night, 5–7 p.m.

Each year, Century 21 Masters provides free pumpkins to the community at its office on Highway 9 in Boulder Creek. Participants are invited to take a pumpkin home and transform it into something extraordinary using their imagination and creativity. Carve it, paint it, dress it up. Spooky, funny, or outrageous, it’s all welcome!
The contest features two categories: adults and children. Each category has its own first-, second-, and third-place winners, with cash prizes of $100 for first place, $50 for second place, and $25 for third place. That means both children and adults have their own opportunity to win!
To ensure the pumpkins are fresh and ready for the festivities, participants must return their decorated pumpkins to the office no later than 3 p.m. on Halloween day October 31.
Then the real fun begins!
From 5 to 7 p.m. on Halloween night, families, children, neighbors, and visitors from beyond Boulder Creek stop by to admire the incredible pumpkin creations, enjoy some candy, and vote for their favorites. Last year, the contest received more than 600 votes, demonstrating just how much enthusiasm and community support this event has generated.
After the contest, photographs of the creative entries are displayed in the office’s front showcase window, allowing the community to enjoy the colorful collection long after Halloween has passed. The photos remain on display until nearly Thanksgiving, giving these imaginative creations a little extra time in the spotlight.
The realtors at Century 21 Masters provide all the pumpkins, prize money, and candy, making this festive community event possible. For the team, the contest is about much more than pumpkins and prizes. It’s about bringing people together, creating memories, encouraging creativity, and giving back to the community they are proud to serve.
What started in 2018 as a fun new idea has grown into a cherished annual tradition. The hundreds of votes, the imaginative entries, and the families who return year after year all help make this event something special.
