Update on Henry Cowell Redwoods Fire

June 11 Update from Cal Fire:

Final size of the fire was 3.8 acres. CAL FIRE firefighters will be patrolling the fire throughout the weekend with 100% containment expected Sunday evening.

Fire in Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park first reported at 2am, Wed June 10.

From Nick Otis, Campus Fire Marshal at UCSC:

Firefighters are working to extinguish a fire that is burning in Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, just south of Felton.

Access appears to be difficult and a full response has been activated.

The rate of spread appears to be slow. However, today is supposed to be hot, and tomorrow winds are supposed to start kicking up.

Although there is heavy smoke on campus as a result of the fire, which started early today, there is no threat to UC Santa Cruz at this time.

There are several fire crews responding on the ground. Some crews may also use campus fire roads to access the fire.

Those with respiratory issues are advised to take precautions, as heavy smoke is blanketing the area.
We will continue to work with the fire department and local law enforcement agencies until the fire is contained.
