Ben Lomond to Spark Holiday Cheer with a Tree Lighing Party
By Blake Holiday
The air in Ben Lomond will soon be filled with warmth and holiday spirit as the mountain community comes together for a brand-new tradition: an annual Tree Lighting Party at the Ben Lomond Fire Department. On Sunday, December 1, 2024, from 4 to 7 pm, the Ben Lomond Village Alliance (BLVA) will host this festive gathering that promises fun, connection, and seasonal cheer.
Organized by the BLVA, the Holiday Tree Lighting Party is designed to be a family-friendly celebration that welcomes people of all ages to kick off the winter season together. Attendees can expect an array of free activities to keep the evening buzzing with excitement. Children and families will have a chance to participate in ornament decorating at designated activity tables, while the sounds of caroling, live music with Chris Jones of Wolf Jett and Dave “Nomad” Miller and other performances will set the tone for a festive and joyous evening.
“This event has truly been a community effort,” says Sarah Jansen-Mount, BLVA Events Committee Chair. “So many people and organizations across Ben Lomond have brought their creativity and passions to the table over the last few months—and the result is going to be incredibly special. We can’t wait to share our first-ever holiday event with the community and envision what’s next as the BLVA evolves.”
Adding to the holiday spirit, the highlight of the evening will be the lighting of a holiday tree in front of the Ben Lomond Fire Department—a moment intended to symbolize unity and the beginning of the festive holiday season in Ben Lomond. The ceremony is expected to draw friends, families, and neighbors, creating a sense of togetherness and hope for the future. To contribute to local goodwill, attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items, which will be donated to Valley Churches United, supporting those in need.
Heidi Castagna, Board President of the BLVA, expressed excitement about this new Ben Lomond shindig: “This event is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate the holiday season by lighting up the winter evening. We invite everyone to join us in making this a memorable start to what we hope will become an annual tradition.”
For those looking to stay warm while enjoying the festivities, a variety of seasonal refreshments will be available. Cider, hot chocolate, and holiday treats will be offered, adding a touch of cozy comfort to the crisp winter evening. Guests are encouraged to don their most festive red attire to add to the cheerful atmosphere.
The BLVA’s commitment to creating engaging, community-centered events shines through in every detail of the tree lighting party. By fostering shared experiences that highlight the vibrancy of Ben Lomond, the BLVA continues to honor its mission of strengthening community bonds and celebrating local heritage.
Admission to the event is free, although donations are welcome to help support local projects and maintain the tradition in years to come. Free parking will be available at the nearby Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 9545 Love Creek Road. Be sure to bring your flashlight for safe passage between parking and the event.
