First Ever Mariachi Festival Comes to Cabrillo College: A Cultural Celebration of Music and Tradition

Get ready to experience the vibrant sounds and colorful traditions of Mexico at the inaugural Mariachi Festival hosted by Cabrillo College. This highly anticipated event will take place on June 9th at 2:00 PM in Samper Recital Hall on the scenic surroundings of Cabrillo College.

Mariachi music holds a special place in the hearts of many, and the Mariachi Festival at Cabrillo
College promises to be a celebration like no other, featuring performances by six outstanding bands. Attendees will be treated to an afternoon filled with lively music, captivating rhythms, and the rich cultural heritage that mariachi represents.


1. Mariachi Osos de Pájaro Valley High School – Hailing from Freedom and Watsonville, Mariachi Osos de Pájaro High School is renowned for their impeccable musicianship and authentic renditions of traditional mariachi classics.

2. Mariachi Ilusión – Keeping the tradition alive for future generations, Mariachi Ilusión is a group of talented young musicians dedicated to preserving the art of mariachi.

3. Cabrillo Mariachi Ensemble – traditional Mexican popular music from the Mariachi style in an ensemble setting.

4. Mariachi Eterno de UCSC – A local favorite, Mariachi Eterno de UCSC showcases the talent and passion of young adult musicians from Santa Cruz and surrounding areas.

5. Mariachi Libertad – Breaking barriers and challenging stereotypes, Mariachi Libertad brings a fresh perspective to the mariachi tradition with their newly created ensemble.

6. Mariachi Santa Cruz – A popular professional group that has performed in various venues in the county for many years.

“We are thrilled to welcome these exceptional mariachi bands to Cabrillo College for what
promises to be an unforgettable afternoon of music and culture,” said John Graulty, Ed.D., Dean of Visual, Applied, & Performing Arts (VAPA) at Cabrillo College. “The Mariachi Festival is a
wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate the beauty and diversity of Mexican music.” Rodolfo Vega, Professor of Mariachi Ensemble Performance, will be the master of ceremonies for the festival.
