Vegetation Control on Highway 9 Starts Monday, February 3

Beginning Monday, February 3, Caltrans will begin vegetation control work along the entire length of Highway 9 in Santa Cruz County. The first two weeks will focus on the roadway from east of Santa Cruz to Felton. The work continues Monday thru Friday from 7 am to 4 pm and is expected to conclude by mid-March.

The contractor for this $500,000 fuel reduction plan is C.T.L. Forest Management, Inc. of Cameron Park, CA. The work is part of California’s Wildfire and Forest Resilience Action Plan to manage vegetation and reduce wildfire risk along the state highway system by removing dead/dying brush and ladder fuels.

In a statement, Caltrans said, “Travelers can expect delays of up to 15 minutes and are encouraged to be alert for flaggers and all highway workers within the project work zones.” Road information and updates can be found on Caltrans District 5 Social Media platforms. @CaltransDistrict5
