Celtic Society May 2020 newsletter

The Celtic Society of the Monterey Bay May newsletter is here!

The May newsletter showcases Marla Fibish’s new recording, The Bright Hollow Fog.

“…Fibish’s rich voice captures the haunting mystery…the mostly traditional music hits just the right emotional notes to offer much needed solace and comfort—and a feeling of intimacy—in these fraught times of distance and isolation. It’s the sonic equivalent of a lace curtain wafting in a window, sunlight dappling a polished hardwood floor. A Wyeth painting come to life.” – Derk Richardson, Peghead Nation

Also in the May newsletter, read about Bay Area uilleann piper, Tim Hill and his new recording, Ceol ag an nGeata: Music at the Gate. Produced by Kyle Alden Thayer, the album, available for download and as a CD, contains “relaxed yet deadly accurate” interpretations of traditional fare and commentary by the artist about the history of each tune.

The Celtic Society of the Monterey Bay urges the community to pitch in to support local venues during the Covid-19 health crisis:

The Celtic Society hosts a predominance of shows at Michael’s on Main in Soquel. The Santa Cruz community is supporting Michael’s on Main so that they will continue to bring the joy of food, music, and community to you all:

For 45 years The Plough & Stars in San Francisco has been the heart of the Irish traditional music scene on the West Coast. Most local Irish players and dancers have made the journey to the Plough at one time or another to experience exceptional craic. Consider making a donation to help keep this venue afloat during the shut-down: https://www.gofundme.com/f/sfplough
